You might be wondering who's this Tanya and what's her deal?
Well, let me give you the scoop!
Hello! I’m Tanya Auger—a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Metabolic Balance® Coach, and Master Health Coach with a passion for helping women like you navigate the winding road of menopause and aging while feeling and looking your absolute best.
But beyond the titles, I’m just a woman on a mission—one who’s walked her share of health twists and turns so that you don’t have to, helping you navigate your own health journey with more ease, grace, and clarity.
When I’m not diving into the world of nutrition and health, I’m embracing life with my incredible family. My brilliant son Kyle 💖, a 26-year-old biochemist currently completing his PhD, keeps me on my toes with his latest discoveries (proud mama moment!)
Then there’s Mia 🐶, my 17-year-old furball who still thinks she’s a puppy (age is just a number, right?). I’m also endlessly grateful for my loving parents, Brenda Lee and Gilles, and my rock, Raymond 👩❤️👨, who’s my partner in laughter, love, and navigating life’s ups and downs.
Fun fact? I’m a serious espresso enthusiast with a Netflix binge habit I’m not ashamed of—hey, balance is key! 😇 And yes, tea lovers, we’re still on good terms! 😉
Now, here’s the thing—I wasn’t always this in tune with health and wellness.
Growing up, I was shaped by the values of dedication, love, and family, thanks to my hardworking parents. School came easily, and I found myself in a promising IT career. But deep down, something was missing—a deeper purpose was calling me.
That inner pull sparked a 20-year journey of highs and lows, from becoming a mom and buying my first home to battling health challenges and personal losses. It took time, but I finally found my true calling in nutrition and holistic health.
I remember that morning all too well, waking up drained, dreading another day of stress, anxiety, and enduring a boss who thrived on chaos. Each day, I was barely getting by, crippled with stomach pain that had me in and out of the emergency room.
Then everything shifted on September 18, 2007, at exactly 2:32 p.m. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.
My husband, who had just had his routine check-up and seemed perfectly healthy, called me out of the blue. The dread hit the moment I saw his name on my phone. His voice confirmed my worst fears—he asked me to come home right away.
I raced through traffic, my heart pounding, and when I got home, I found him shattered. As we hugged in our kitchen, tears flowed, and the devastating truth became clear: he had been diagnosed with cancer and needed urgent surgery.
In that instant, our lives were turned upside down.
Determined to take on this fight head-on, I knew that if I was going to support him and keep my family strong, I had to protect my own health, too.
What I Did…
Like most people, I started with Google—devouring every article, diet plan, and piece of medical advice I could find. But after three long years of trying everything under the sun with little to no success, the frustration set in.
It became clear: relying on conventional diets, the food industry, and even mainstream medicine alone wasn’t the answer. Sure, modern medicine has its place, especially in emergencies like my husband’s, but it often falls short when it comes to prevention and long-term health.
This led me to take a leap and go back to school, where I dove into the world of nutrition and discovered how food could truly be medicine.
Now, years later, I’m thrilled to say that my husband is over fifteen years cancer-free, and my once-debilitating digestive issues are a thing of the past.
Just when I thought I had cracked the code on “healthy eating” and wellness, menopause decided to crash the party uninvited.
Let’s rewind about 15 years. I was so caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life that I didn’t notice the subtle shifts happening in my body.
It never even crossed my mind that the little signs—those creeping symptoms—were waving a red flag for menopause. I was eating well, staying active, and even coaching a running club, thinking that whatever was going on would sort itself out.
Reality hit hard about three years later when I stumbled across a photo of myself. I could hardly believe my eyes—I had gained 32 pounds, jumping from a comfortable 120 to 152 pounds, and I couldn’t understand why.
My diet and activity level hadn’t changed, so what was happening? Determined to get back on track, I leaned into what I knew best—nutrition.
I went back to basics with a simple healthy eating plan focused on a caloric deficit. The weight came off, and for a while, things felt normal again.
But then, as I entered my early 40s, the weight started creeping back. Even though I was sticking to healthy habits and staying active, nothing seemed to work anymore.
I felt lost and frustrated, so I did what many of us do—I jumped onto the latest diet bandwagons. I tried Ideal Protein, Minceavie (like Atkins), ProEnergy, and even dabbled in Keto. Sure, I’d lose some weight, but it would always come back, often bringing along extra pounds as souvenirs.
By my mid-40s, perimenopause was in full swing, bringing with it a storm of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It was overwhelming, and I reluctantly turned to medication.
As a nutritionist, I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. Shouldn’t I have this all figured out by now?
I even started to buy into the myth that life after 40 was just a downhill slide filled with misery. You know the sayings: “It’s all part of getting older,” or “Maybe it’s just me; I’ve tried everything, and nothing works.”
The meds didn’t really help, and as time went on, my symptoms only got worse.
The breaking point came one day when I snapped at my mom—the kindest soul I know—for absolutely no reason. The guilt and regret hit me like a ton of bricks, and I knew I couldn’t keep going like this.
So, I went back to the basics—my books, my knowledge, and my passion for nutrition. I asked myself: Why couldn’t I use what I know to heal myself? I had helped so many women and even supported my husband through serious health challenges—why not me?
Slowly, I began to see that food wasn’t the problem. The real issue was that traditional diets and weight-loss strategies don’t work for women dealing with the hormonal rollercoaster of menopause. They’re not designed for our unique needs.
With this aha moment, I began weaning off the meds and focused on rebalancing my body with nutrition that actually supports menopausal health. The results were life-changing. My anxiety, depression, and insomnia lifted, and I felt like myself again. It was a powerful reminder to listen to what my body truly needed during this stage of life.
Now, in my 50s, I feel amazing—full of energy, with hot flashes and night sweats in the rearview mirror. I’ve broken through my weight
plateau, my digestion is on point, and I can enjoy food without discomfort.
I feel confident, vibrant, and attractive again. With my health in check, I can focus on what really matters—quality time with family, friends, and living a life I love. Life is truly beautiful!
Thankfully, I haven’t faced a third wake-up call, and fingers crossed, I never do.
But I know that living a healthy life is a daily choice. I make that choice every morning because I want to live a long, vibrant life and be there for all of my son’s milestones (and hopefully, one day, my grandkids too!).
This journey has taught me so many valuable lessons, and I’m still learning every day. But the biggest lesson that drives everything I do is this: Your health is your greatest treasure, and it’s the key to living a life you truly love.
